Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn today announced the appointment of Ronald W. Harling to the position of Jail Superintendent. Harling will fill the position that was vacated by Robert Maldonado in May of this year. Harling served as Chief of the Sheriff’s Civil Bureau since June of 2003.

Ronald Harling was determined to be the most qualified person for the position. "Ronald Harling has both the law enforcement and the management experience that will be an asset to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, said Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn.

Ronald Harling began his law enforcement career with the Orleans County Sheriff's Office in 1998 as the Orleans County Jail Superintendent. After serving three years as the Superintendent, Harling was appointed Undersheriff by then Sheriff Merle Fredericks. As Undersheriff, Harling was responsible for overseeing the Orleans County Sheriff's Civil Bureau. Ronald Harling was appointed Sheriff of Orleans County when Sheriff Frederick's retired in May of 2003.

Ronald Harling earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York at Brockport and received his police certification from the Rural Police Training Institute. Harling recently graduated from Leadership Rochester and is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Public Administration at SUNY Brockport.

He resides in Churchville with his wife and three children.
